we all drank Grandma's funky egg nog
and then laid down to die
she was laughing with a snowflake twinkle
shining in her eye
but a sinister fate
would not be ours that night
though the room began to grow
and our shoulders shook with fright
we saw
candy canes six feet tall
our jaws hit the ground as we realized
we had been cut down to size
and it was gonna be a tiny Christmas
after all
the presents were enormous
and we climbed on every one
the tree was trimmed with lights
each burning brighter than the sun
but we noticed one flaw
it caused us all to stop
though the ornaments were hung
there was no angel on top
we saw
that even though we might fall
in spite of the danger, we all knew
this was what we had to do
to make it a tiny Christmas
after all
we had a mission to do
Daniel strapped candy canes on like shoes
and he used the hooks to walk up the tree
while down below, Jonah
dragged a spoon over
for us to use as a catapult, don't you see
Kaeta positioned the angel on the spoon
then we all climbed to the peak of the highest present
counting to three and holding hands we jumped together
we landed on the spoon and shot that angel up to Daniel
he caught it by a wing and pulled it up onto the tree
then he turned and came back down
using the candy canes for skis
as he hit the ground we scarcely could believe we were alive
we were shouting victory and trading fist bumps and high fives
and no one was noticing that we were growing back to size
we saw
a family that, big or small,
would stick together and not forget
our adventures and happiness
we'd remember the tiny Christmas
after all
